The petition reads as follows:

PETITION TO THE HOUSE OF COMMONS IN PARLIAMENT ASSEMBLED

Protecting People With Disabilities The Supreme Court of Canada Latimer Decision

By the undersigned Citizens of Canada, draw the attention of the House to the following:

Whereas the law is designed to deter criminal acts and to protect Canadian citizens; And whereas, the Supreme Court of Canada upheld the Saskatchewan lower court decision, that a 10 year minimum is a just sentence for second degree murder and that a lesser sentence is not applicable for killing a disabled child like Tracy Latimer; And whereas, vulnerable Canadians (disabled, elderly, chronically ill, etc) are recognized under Section 15 (1) of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, as being equally protected under the law; And whereas, a lenient sentence or executive clemency for Robert Latimer implies to all Canadians that killing a vulnerable person is a lesser crime than killing an able-bodied person; And whereas, thousands of vulnerable people in Canada are dependant on others for their basic needs and care; Therefore your petitioners request that the Parliament of Canada under section 15 (1) of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms will uphold the Latimer Decision of the Supreme Court of Canada.
